Thoughts about what goes on around me and what it takes to "make meaning"

A hard blow to user generated social shopping

ThisNext hired a high profile editor-in-chief and - quoting from the post - it seems that they don’t believe anymore in user generated content for social shopping:

The new home page and content efforts are a continuation of an effort, started by Edelman, to shift ThisNext away from a purely user-generated social shopping site to one with more of a curated, content-and-editorial heavy site.

The heavy weight of the space, Kaboodle, also underwent some changes just before the summer, steering towards a flash sale proposition (although keeping faith in its core business) and therefore I’m wondering whether it’s the end of user generated content in the shopping sphere. Was it just a myth then? What happened?
