Thoughts about what goes on around me and what it takes to "make meaning"

Introducing #moodtracker…

Today I feel really optimistic. Last night I saw a friend and we discussed loads of things, which sparked some ideas and most of all a lot of determination. I always pity the lack of capital to do a certain business, or the lack of knowledge to pursue another idea, or lack of skills to go after one of the many web-based projects going on in my head.

But today I feel optimistic. And all the things above are just a very peculiar and subtle type of excuse. And I hate excuses. So in today’s cheerful and determined mood I decided to cut the crap and put my efforts into things I can do, because they don’t need a heap of money to get started, nor specific skills that I don’t have (well, that’s arguable, but I’m a dreamer). Maybe the enthusiasm will wear off tomorrow. Perhaps tomorrow I will feel pessimistic. Or apathetic perhaps. Who knows. Life is a roller coaster of emotions. Otherwise there must be something wrong. It may be not worth living.

So I thought of a little silly idea. My own personal Mood Tracker®. No, it’s not part of the things I want to get done as said above, it’s just a trivial but perhaps funny/informative thing. How does it work? Everyday I will tweet about my mood, trying to stick to standard sentences. For example: “Today I feel optimistic. Life is beautiful”. Tomorrow it could be the same, or “Today I feel pessimistic. Life sucks” and so on… you caught my drift. All hashtagged #moodtracker of course. Let’s exaggerate, I’ll hashtag the mood as well, yeah! Today I feel #optimistic yeah! Ok, I’m being silly, I’ll stop now…

Anyway, why should I do it? Well, because I find it funny and after all I’m feeling optimistic today and everything makes sense. Oh, then perhaps it would be more appropriate to say that today I feel irrational, but that’s another story.
On top of that I may want to collect the data at some point and use the power of Excel to create… don’t know… maybe a shiny pie chart? Yes, a pie chart… I like that.
And perhaps someone else will follow the example and use the hashtag #moodtracker to clutter your twitter feed fill your heart with very interesting snippets of how they feel that day. Awww….

Let’s get the ball rolling…
